I work for the Tishomingo County Historical and Genealogical Society in Iuka, Ms. I am interested in verifying a story that I have heard for many years about the name of Iuka, IL. I was always told after soldiers from Middleton,IL visited Iuka, Ms during the Civil War... they returned home and changed the name. Is this correct and documented? Our organization sends out a quarterly newsletter and I was hoping to possibly highlight this story in our May edition. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much,

My Great Uncle CPL Laurence O'DEA went MIA in the Kunu-Ri Gauntlet, North
Korea, on 01 December 1950 while Serving with Army 2ID, 2nd Engineer Combat
Battalion, B Company. MST George Eugene HARTWELL was his superior and was
taken POW the same day Larry went MIA. I have been trying to locate and
reach out to the families of other men that served in B Company with Larry
in an effort to create an information sharing-network. I am seeking letters
and photographs that were sent Home by these men during their time in
Service. Most of those letters contain photos and/names of their friends or
guys they knew from Basic Training through Deployment, as well as the
conditions they were subjected to and the events leading up to their loss.
Do you have any contact information for surviving members of George
HARTWELL's family? If so, please share my information with them as I would
love to speak to them. Thank you.

My BRYANT people were in Wayne and Marion Counties way before 1850, when
father James T. BRYANT died. His wife was Rachel Adeline ALDERSON, b. 1800,
VA. They came from Tennessee and Virginia. [They had two sons, Riley and
Sinclair. Sinclair married Matilda DARSKY on 31 May 1883 in Marion county,
Illinois.] I still need an accurate death date for Rachael (ALDERSON) BRYANT,
I have found two or three dates.
